Reflections Of The Smokies

"Desiderata" (Latin for "desired things") is a poem by Max Ehrmann about attaining happiness in life. I had this posted on my last blog and was asked to post it here.  I am glad to share it again with you.  It is a poem that I need to look at often.  It's something we could all learn from.

Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.
Frost On The Mountainside, 3/10
I thought of the "peace there may be in silence" yesterday as I hiked under Cliff Tops and glimpsed this view of some vegetation hanging on to the side of the rocks, frozen in time.  As it thaws and bursts into life this spring it will still have a quiet beauty.

The poem is quite meaningful to me as well. I have many things that I have to look at and see frequently, if nothing more than to remind me of my insignificance when compared to the universe around me. There are several "sayings" and quotes that I live by, and my favorite is something that I've felt for many years when hiking or backpacking: "The Journey is the Destination". So true for me. The white vegetation looks like something you would see on the bottom of the ocean.
