Reflections Of The Smokies

When I am inspired with  such a fantastic view I have to ask myself why I haven't always been out in nature enjoying God's handy work.  I think that in large part Fear kept me from it.  For a long time I was in fear of stepping out of my comfort zone and just getting out of town.  Now we see it almost every time we drive to a trail head.  A family piles out of a van, takes pictures at the overlook and then piles back in the van to drive on into town.  Hey, there's nothing wrong with town, I love going there!  But when I was fearful to get out into the real back country, that wasn't right.  I hope that if you are wishing you were somewhere other than where you are, you will overcome that fear and just go.

How true, how true. It's far better than psychotherapy and it's FREE as well as FREEING. God made it for our enjoyment and it is a balm for the battered spirit or just plain ol' fun. Thanks for sharing your joy with us.

Doug, your photos are absolutely breathtaking! Thanks for including my son, John, on your site. Hopefully you'll get the 900 mile bug along with him. Loved your site when you were the winter caretaker. I checked the site daily and will continue to follow your new reflections site as well. Can't wait to meet you when our family hikes to the lodge September 28.

Hey Doug, if we ever get the chance I would like for you show me how to get to the section where you took these pics from. Or point me in the right direction from the trail. Great view!

Well put! I hope that one day my wife and I can get over our fear and move away from home to come live near the Smokies. We are working towards that goal and looking, but it is hard to not fear the unknown.

Our family has always hiked. I would never have made it to the top of the Chimney's if our 4 and 6 year old daughters had not already climbed ahead of me with the Daddy. I couldn't let them do it and me not. I am now 70 and we are still hiking. Hiked in the Laurel Snow Pocket Wilderness this week.
